BENEFITSAllport Scholars distinguish themselves in important areas of professional competence. In addition to the personal satisfaction gained, this is extremely helpful in applying for graduate school; it also helps potential employers appreciate the Allport Scholars’ drive and accomplishment. They work closely with faculty members and other motivated students, and are exposed to new ideas in the field of psychology. The mentoring relationships developed with faculty can last for years to come. Students involved in the Allport Program may submit an award application in the fall of their senior year to a faculty committee for review. The committee will review all applications and name qualified students as recipients of the Allport Scholar Award and the Allport Award for Excellence in Applied Psychology. These awards are noncompetitive; all students meeting the criteria are eligible to receive these honors. Allport Award winners will receive a letter of commendation from the Chair of the Department of Psychology and will be formally recognized at the department's annual commencement reception. |
